Entry from: Jujuy, Argentina Entry Title: "Day 25 Uyuni to Jujuy 611 km" Entry: "Day 25 - after the previous day's difficulties we set off at 07.10 (at the front of the group) across the salt flats to Uyuni. We were carrying the bags from the crew of the broken Mustang from Wim and Nellie Peters whose front suspension had collapsed. We felt very lucky that the Jag had broken down in a major town, the stricken crews faced a 600 km transfer to Jujuy, or 571km back to La Paz, as the closest places to hire a car if available and Colchani the local town had few, if any, mechanics. As we drove past the salt pyramids in Colchani, we noticed the blocks had been removed from the diesel pump in the small local garage. We parked alongside the pump which had somehow received a delivery of diesel overnight ( we suspected the fuel had been reserved for the locals). This was confirmed by later crews who were told that there was no diesel at Colchani, and there was none at Uyuni and some crews had real difficulties finding enough fuel to reach Jujuy. One crew spent a very long day after finding fuel off route and hand pump filling their tanks from a remote village's supplies.
